historic sites and buildings

The National Trust property at Stowe Barton has particular historic and archaeological importance as the site of the great country house, built in 1679 for John Grenville, first Earl of Bath.

The Hawker’s Hut, just along the coast path from Morwenstow is the smallest building owned by the National Trust, built from driftwood by the eccentric vicar and poet Robert Stephen Hawker 1803-1875.

Morwenstow has many historic buildings including the impressive Norman church and 13th century inn
