Landscape Monitoring
This Atlas page contains the baseline results from the
Cornwall AONB Landscape Monitoring Project, carried out in 2008 in
conjunction
with the Tamar Valley and Isles of Scilly AONBs. It presents the results for Cornwall
AONB, based on a framework of 23
Landscape Monitoring Units (LMUs) which were defined as suitably sized
areas of
common landscape character to enable change to be monitored over time.
The
identification of LMUs was based on the information contained within
the
Cornwall Landscape Character Assessment, including the location of
Landscape
Character Areas. Both the LMUs and the
Landscape Character Areas are included as layers in this Atlas theme to
view on
the map.
The project selected a set of monitoring indicators for each LMU, based both on local distinctiveness and considering factors that may influence future landscape change, including climate change and development pressure. A full explanation of the project is given in the main project report, available to download from the link at the bottom of the page. By clicking on each LMU from the map, you can access the results from the baseline monitoring undertaken in 2008. This information will be re-visited by the AONB over the next decade, with the indicators measured in the same way to allow for any landscape change from 2008 to be identified. The 'protocols' that have been developed to enable the same method to be followed in the future, to measure each indicator, are detailed in the separate report available for download from the bottom of this Atlas page.
